We have been talking about a trip to Hawaii for a while.  We finally managed to find time and make it happen for a good reason.  Last year with 6 months old Iona we didn't go anywhere fancy to celebrate our 10th anniversary.  This year we decided to celebrate our 11th anniversary on the big island.   Not too bad, we were just one month late.

From the aircraft window the volcanos were so visible beneath the clouds.





See the gate behind us?  This Kona airport is an outdoor airport!  No double strength glass windows, no nothing!



For the first two nights we stayed at Hilton Waikoloa Village.  After a short wait at the check-in desk (We were told that our room above the dolphin quest was "almost" ready.  The only thing missing was the new towels...) we took a boat ride to our room.  We could also have taken a tram ride but we all agreed a boat ride to start our day at the village was more fun.





We didn't plan too much for the first afternoon.  The kids checked out the pools right away.







Went under a man-made water fall.













Had dinner right by the dolphin quest pool.  Both kids were very excited seeing dolphins this close!  This dolphin pool is definitely one of the biggest attractions at Hilton.  We were lucky enough to have our reservation upgraded to a room right above the pool with only $5 extra per night.  Compared to the $400 we paid for this ocean view room, $5 is nothing!

A relaxed dinner in the paradise can't go well without live music and dolphins around.



Iona was very excited seeing the 4th of July fireworks.  She said hi to it...



Laughed about it...



And danced to it!



Our first day on the big island went well.  Lights out at 10pm local time which was 1am PST.  We had to rest for our big day tomorrow.
